International Workshop of the Working Group AG Medien in cooperation with AG Visuelle Anthropologie at the Conference ›Worlds. Zones. Atmospheres. Seismographies of the Anthropocene‹ of the German Anthropological Association at the University of Bremen 2021
Organization: Andreas Ackermann (University Koblenz-Landau), Anja Dreschke (Heinrich Heine-University Düsseldorf)
Discussant: Cora Bender (Siegen University)
Abstract:
A side effect of the global pandemic is a significant increase of various kinds of digital curating projects, relating to ethnographic research and anthropological themes more broadly. Due to the measurements for social distancing many institutions like museums or festivals as well as research projects and individual researchers decide to go online and present exhibitions, talks and films on the Internet. Whereas in many cases the switch to online formats may be just a virtue of necessity, the panel seeks to explore the structural changes and new possibilities of digital forms of presentation in relation to anthropological engagements. We take a closer look at the recent developments by bringing together researchers and curators who present their digital curatorial strategies and discuss the chances and challenges of online exhibition formats and festivals for anthropological research and its representation. Participants will be provided the links to the respective digital projects presented and discussed prior to the panel.
